Gladys Kpatchi kept oozing amazing intensity and took charge of her game and the field to emerge overall winner in the Ladies Category on day two of the Coca-Cola Open African MiniGolf Championship at the Sports City Arena in Accra.
Gladys from Togo showed flashes of success from the onset and sustained that momentum to finish atop the leaderboard in a flawless style.
After the fifth round that summed up her two-day campaign, Gladys recorded a total 224 strokes after returning 44, 45, 38, 46 and 52.
“I am very happy. It’s been a great tournament so far and I’m glad I made my country
proud for being the overall winner.” The overly elated Gladys told TheGolfer Online in an interview.
With this win she goes on to represent Africa in Las Vegas in September.
Meanwhile, Moukoula Vyldie from Gabon stayed in contention for the second position after returning total strokes of 250. Moukoula showed enough consistency in the two-day campaign over the five rounds.
She returned 49 on round one and proceeded to record 50 on round two and 49 on round three. She carded 50 on round four and concluded with 52 for her final round.
Raquel Cervera followed in third place with 253 strokes while Lathihia Meledje from
Ivory Coast shot 254 strokes for fourth place.
Avelina Nqui also carded 254 strokes but separated on countback for the fifth position.
In the Ladies Guest category, Alice Kobisch from Germany recorded 192 strokes for the first position while Laura Kobisch also from Germany returned 240 strokes for a second-placed finish.
The tournament enters its final stage on Sunday July 29th for the Coca-Cola Knockout Champion; who will have to sail through a tough field of 54 players to emerge the lone winner.
The deserving winner also gets the rare opportunity to fly to Las Vegas for the World Top
100 Minigolfers Championship.
